My late wife Anne and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend the 49th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October 2021. We absolutely loved it!!!
We already were experienced balloon crew with my brother Jordan, my brother Justin, and my sister-in-law Mishell. So, when we were in Albuquerque we definitely knew what we were doing, but we had no idea how complete awesome and epic it would be! Let’s just put it this way, we went crazy loco nuts. We even bought a suitcase while we were out there just to be able to bring back all our souvenirs that we purchased during that trip.
Our favorite part, well, at least mine: Dawn Patrol. There’s nothing like being up at 4:30 am to a thousands of screaming and yelling hot air balloon enthusiasts as the first balloon is launched for the day. Honestly, there’s no better way to start a day.
While were were out there, I was on Twitter (now X) and I created the #BalloonWithGeoff hashtag to show off some of the sight and sounds we were experiencing. I was getting a fair amount of good stuff and was approached by some media outlets. One of my videos was even used for a little news article. I should have kept the link because now it’s buried somewhere in the Interwebs.
This blog is making good on a thought that I had at the end of that trip of how cool it would be to make a documentary about hot air ballooning and all that it takes to get out to Albuquerque in October for the Fiesta.
I’m probably going to get into some legal trouble. But honey badger don’t care. Fiesta is a Spanish word that means party, so I don’t think they can copyright that and if anything this blog and possible documentary will just bring them more attention, so come at me bro. Don’t threaten me with a good time! haha
Besides being a taunting a-hole, I’d like to think of myself as fun loving caring free spirit. There’s nothing more freeing than chasing one of my family members in a hot air balloon or maybe taking a flight with them.
